How do we overcome the bi-polar nature of the British weather? We've experienced snow - to freak hailstones - to heatwave within the space of 3 weeks so how is a girl supposed to know when its the right time to pack away our knee high boots and splash out on a pair of sandals?

Let's get the disclaimer out of the way, I'm not sitting here saying that I always dress weather appropriate because truth be told, I'd say I'm more the opposite but I can introduce you to my current wardrobe saviour that you may have overlooked; the shirt dress.

Last weekend, my other half and I celebrated his twenty-first birthday in London and 'cor blimey' was it hot. It was 31degrees on Sunday in the city centre, so I took it upon myself to find the perfect piece to get my legs out.
Whenever I head into London, my first stop is &otherstories, it's one of my favourite places to shop. I love that it's like the younger, slightly edgier sister of COS. I would do pretty much anything to have one in Birmingham! Whilst rummaging through every inch of the store, I found this stunning oversized shirt dress. I've been on the hunt for one since I started making my summer wardrobe purchases but I've struggled to find one thats simple without looking boring or resemble something you'd wear to an office.
This little number is so perfect, the A line shape with panelling and a grandad collar gives the perfect clean cut silhouette I'm obsessed with.

I kept the look neutral in tones, I wanted the dress to be the feature and I felt any obvious colour would have taken away from that.
I teamed the dress with a pair of nude block heel sandals. I wanted to add a small amount of height to give the dress the sophistication it deserved whilst ensuring my feet didn't pack in after traipsing around London for hours and of course, my signature oversized sunnies. These newbies with rose lenses are a pair I've had my eye on (pardon the pun) for a while but have been sold out online! I nabbed them from Topshop on Oxford St and couldn't believe they were in store.

Shirt dresses are ideal come rain or shine, add a pair of tights or sandals and you'll still feel glam. Invest wisely in a versatile colour/print and it will do you proud year round.

I hope this helps you with all your British weather woes this summer!
